Is A Mass Migration Predicted After Fidel Castro Dies?

As we all know Fidel Castro is within the black figures of past and present politicians such as Hitler, Mussolini, Pinochet, Hussein and recently added to the list, Bush.

Castro has controlled the Cuban nation for many years, some like the communist living style, while others hate it and end up escaping to different countries, mainly the USA to the state of Florida.

As it is, many Cubans risk their lives daily crossing sixty miles of Atlantic ocean to get to Miami with the hopes of being free and starting a new life, sadly, many of them accomplish half of their dream and dying of dehydration or drowned.

U.S. homeland security officials say they are preparing for a remote, but real possibility: that the death of Fidel Castro could trigger a mass migration from the island nation, landing refugees in detention centers in Florida, Texas and beyond.

At least that's one of several worst-case scenarios that federal officials weighed Tuesday at the start of a simulated exercise aimed at gauging the ability of the Department of Homeland Security and other agencies to respond to a potential rafter crisis.

Coast Guard Rear Adm. David W. Kunkel, director of the Homeland Security Task Force Southeast, which led the two-day exercise, stressed that the U.S. government is not predicting that Castro's death will destabilize Cuba and spark a massive wave of migration. But, he said, ''We don't want to be caught flat-footed."

A federal plan to contain a possible exodus from Cuba has been under review for 18 months and will need final approval from Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff. On Tuesday, federal officials declined to disclose many details of the plan, but said they are confident it will curb a wave of migration.

Some state and local officials said they hope that's true, but if migrants get past the first line of defense, they worry that Florida could see a repeat of the Mariel Boatlift, a chaotic exodus from Cuba in 1980 that brought 125,000 Cubans to the U.S., most to Florida's shores

Fidel Castro is in really bad shape, he is suffering from colorectal cancer and many believe he wont make it past 2007.

His brother, Raul seems the one to be taking care of most of the political issues revolving around Cuba, but will this last after Castro is gone? Will we have a massive migration of Cubans after Castro is gone?

How will a mass migration affect our economy? Will the US support this or will they be assholes and send them back like they do to Mexican and Central-Americans?

I am not sure what's going to happen, but I believe a lot of Cubans will see this as an opportunity of political weakness in Cuba and come to the United States.

I am sure a lot of family members will urge family they have in Cuba to migrate and start off a new life, I guess we just have to wait and see what happens.

Boycott McDonalds - Support Farmworkers

McDonald's Corporation buys their tomatoes from Immokalee Florida. Because the farmworkers work under harsh and inhumane conditions they asked McDonald's to pay 1 penny more for every bucket of tomatoes they buy from Immokalee, but McDonald's refuses. 1 penny more per bucket of tomatoes amounts to about $100,000 extra a year for McDonald's, and for a corporation that large this amount is pocket change.

The farmworkers in Immokalee Florida work 10-12 hour shifts to make $50 a dollars in a day. They lift 125 buckets of tomatoes that way 32 pounds each. These farmworkers do not receive benefits, do not receive overtime, do not receive sick days, and do not receive the right to organize. They work under the worst conditions possible, and receive an income so ridiculously small that they fall under the range of the United States poverty class.

For the past years people in America think that the conditions for farmworkers has changed so much and that they live so well. The reality of it is, that not much is different. Yes some laws have changed to protect these farmworkers, but who is enforcing them?

Please don't think that just one person can't change anything because as Americans we use that line way too often. The truth is that it starts with one person. So please boycott McDonald's. Go somewhere else for a meal. You can make a difference. Tacobell refused, but then felt the wrath of the pissed off American and gave in. Lets do the same to McDonald's.

Mexico In War - Calderon Vs Lopez Obrador

On July 2, 2006 41 millions Mexican citizens made the decision for a new president and a long awaited renewal of Mexico's socioeconomic status. After the official vote count, Mexico's Federal Electoral Institute ( IFE ), gave the role and responsibility to National Action Party candidate Felipe Calderon.

A few hours after the election, something didn't seem right, opponent candidate from the Democratic Revolution Party Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador started war and was in denial to his loss claiming victory as well; he decided to create an "alternate government" before Dec.1 presidential inauguration. He called his followers for assistant stating that this had been a "fraudulent victory" by Calderon.

Well, today is Dec. 1 and Felipe Calderon has given his first speech to the Mexican Nation at the National Auditory and such thing didn't occur, or did it? What we have seen since the elections is constant verbal and physical wars between the two followers, but especially Lopez's Obrador.

This leftist and sore loser filled the streets with millions of people protesting and camping out for a recount that never occurred. December 1, 2006 was no different then previous protests, senators and congressmen started with a verbal brawl at the Mexican Congress and it ended in a fight, in my opinion a very immature thing to do.

Amazingly enough, the country seems to be divided by a large percentage, making these problems more constant and more dangerous. My question to all the leftists is, why in the heck are you guys focusing your energy on this crap? Mexico is in bad shape and has been for a long time, the Mexican government simply sucks, they don't create jobs for people, they simply steal money and are filled of corruption, which makes me sad.

Hopefully, elected president Felipe Calderon will do otherwise and show us Mexicans there is still hope to better this beautiful country. During his first speech he promised the every newborn will now have free medical care and that his annual salary will be lowered, which is a good start in my opinion. Sadly, there is no perfect government in this world, look at Bush and his immature decisions with Iraq's problem, look at North Korea and Venezuela, this government world is a complete mess filled with lies and double standards.

My only dream and hope is that Calderon shows Mexicans otherwise and lets us believe that there is still hard working and trustful people, Mexico and other countries really need that, people are suffering for these so called, "Presidents." Bush - The New World Tyrant

A few years ago Mr. Bush called Saddam Hussein the world's tyrant, but little did he know, or did his followers know that bush was to become one as well.

I understand that Saddam caused a lot of damage to his people when he was in power, but although great distress was being caused, he seemed to have everything under control; still, many people liked him and still supported him.

Why do I call bush the new world tyrant? because he simply is, he is a mess involved in a mess that he can't get out of. For example, he sees that illegal immigration is a big problem, but does nothing to fix it, he simply wants to build walls and send national guard troops to the border, come on Mr.Bush, that is not going to work, these people will keep coming no matter; what we need is an amnesty reform.

Another thing I dislike about bush is that he is sticking his nose where he shouldn't. Why in the heck is he trying to get into North Korea's business if he hasn't fixed the Iraq problem and needless to say, the problems we have here in the nation?

He is so stupid and immature that he and his administration went on to ban iPod sales and other electronics to this country.

Like I said, he should focus on "fixing" the problems this nation has ( Health Care, Immigration, Gas prices, etc) , removing the troops from Iraq and he should leave other nations alone; who in the heck does he think he is? A world renown controller/leader? yeah right!

Secondly, he simply doesn't accept he screwed up with the Iraq war decision. A lot of people are now mad and upset because of the decisions this dude made, but once this people vote for him, its their fault for putting him back in office in 2004, what a screw up!

Even former president Jimmy Carter abruptly criticized Bush's decision and poor management of the war in Iraq; he told CNN that he believes the USA invasion was a big blunder.

“It’s going to prove, I believe, to be one of the greatest blunders that American presidents have ever made,” Carter told Wolf Blitzer on ‘The Situation Room.’

When asked how Iraq will be compared to Vietnam, Carter said it will be a “close call” but noted U.S. actions in Iraq are more publicized around the world than they were in Vietnam.

“I think its going to be a close call, but perhaps much more vividly known by the rest of the world than Vietnam was,” Carter said.

But the former president said he disagreed with those who have labeled the situation in Iraq a “civil war.”

“I think civil war is a serious — a more serious circumstance than exists in Iraq,” Carter said. “And I say that based on some of the civil wars with which we’ve been involved in the last few years.”

Now, the interesting, funny and stupid thing is that Mr.Bush still thinks he is in the right path, he said on Tuesday that there will be no withdrawal from the the troops until the mission is complete. What is his damn problem?

Its been a while since he is been promising to fix the Iraq situation and things seem to get worse as days go by. Thousands of innocent people are dying daily, hundredths of our soldiers are dying and their families are the ones suffering terribly.

New Illegal Rights Boycott/Protest Set For January 2007

I honestly think is time for another national boycott/march to put more pressure on the congress to act. With the past elections, more seats where given to democrats, so now we have a different audience to protest to; they always seem to be more supportive of an immigration reform and I honestly think we need one now.

I think we should shoot for something similar or bigger to the National Immigrant Rights March that occurred on March of 2006. I believe it would be a nice idea to do this protest at the beginning of the year ( January 2007) , since its a new year, we want to start in good standing and start demanding what all illegal immigrants deserve, an opportunity to become legalized;like it or not we are to stay here, no border wall or national guard is going to stop these people from coming here.

I will start sending this information to national and state radio stations to start the movement going, I think if we show more rigidness this coming year, a lot of good things can happen for immigrants. I will also contact the UFW ( United Farm Workers) which is really close from where I live, I know they will support me as well as the radio stations spreading the word and needless to mention all the high school and college students that will walkout after classes in support. We will demand immigrant rights and I know we will get them, is a matter of pressuring, marching and protesting, just like Cesar Chavez did.

I will post news on this issue weekly and keep you updated on how the organization is going. One thing I can tell you for sure is that we will get what we deserve and want, its a matter of being persistent and united; remember, SI SE PUEDE!!

What Would Happen To The U.S. If All Illegal Immigrants Left?

Could we afford to live here if they all left?

There are several proposals for immigration reform being discussed now. They say they will solve the problem of so many illegal immigrants coming to and staying in this country. Some are offering amnesty, others guest worker cards, others temporary cards.

Some people are talking about rounding them up and sending them all back to where ever they came from.

How would we do that? First, how would we find all of them? If we were able to find them, who would do the processing and paperwork to organize the deportation? Would we hire planes and buses and buy them tickets to go home? It sounds like it would be impossible and also impossibly expensive to do this for the millions who are here, some for many years.

If the roads were filled with buses and the skies with planes taking all these people out of this country, what would happen then? Who would do the work they were doing here? There would be a huge shortage of workers for farming, construction, landscaping, restaurants and tourism. Last season, growers could not get enough workers to harvest their crops and this year is worse. Prices of everything would rise dramatically and some produce would not be available at all, because it would be rotting in the fields.

These people take jobs that most other residents won’t take. The pay is low, the hours are long, the work is very hard and often dangerous, the benefits are non-existent. They often are housed in bunkhouses or sharing trailers, away from their families, living in conditions few of us would tolerate. Assuming they make about $6.00 an hour, what would the wage have to be raised to for any of us to accept the work and conditions? $12? $20? If growers had to pay two or three or four times the present wage just to harvest, how much would lettuce and apples and tomatoes cost in the stores?

If landscaping companies, contractors and restaurants had to pay top wages to get the work done, how much would we have to pay to buy or repair a house or get the lawn cut or buy a meal? If motel and hotel maids and janitors were paid more, would we be able to afford a room?

If these workers were allowed to work legally, with a guest worker card or temporary worker visa, or whatever the different proposals call them, they would have to be paid at least the minimum wage and would be paying taxes. Paying the minimum wage or the prevailing wage would probably raise prices a little, but not as much as raising wages so the rest of us would do the work. An added bonus might be discovering that some of these workers are highly educated and skilled and are taking these manual labor jobs because they can’t legally get a better job.

If companies can’t find enough workers who are here legally, they should be able to offer these jobs to others willing and able to do them. But these people should have some type of document; they have to be paying taxes, have to be able to work and live safely, have to be able to be located when the immigration department wants to know where they are.

Undocumented workers are exploited by unscrupulous employers. They are exploited precisely because they are undocumented. These employers know they can do almost anything to them and won’t be reported. If these employers were made to follow the laws, it would also help solve the problem.

If people needed these temporary visas to work here, the ones that are crossing the border illegally would probably stop coming. It would be impossible to send all the illegal people back home now, we have to find a better way to deal with this problem.

We beg for immigration reform and complain about illegal immigrants, but are we willing to pay more for almost everything we need and use in our lives if they are deported?

These Percentage of Americans trying to fight illegal immigration are sooo clever with their ideas. First, they think a border wall will work, yeah right! Our people will find ways to surpass this wall, hunger, poverty and dreams are stronger than a freaggin wall or a set of webcams tracking every move they make.

So the government of Texas wants to make their state "safer" by using this webcams along the 1240 miles of the Texas-Mexico Border...I mean, come on guys, what is their or your freaggin problem?? You are treating illegal immigrants as trash, as robbers, as vulgars and they are not that, they are simply people with a dream to better their lives.

I feel very positive that with the democrats winning a lot of seats, illegal immigrant's luck will change for the best, since those dumb and racist Republicans don't like our people very much, but whatever, ellos se lo pierden!

This "plan" that is being carried by the Texas Governor is that internet users will have access to a website, where they will be able to see illegals trying to cross and there will be a phone number to report this incident, what a joke, like this is going to work.

Come on guys, nothing that you do to stop illegals from coming will work, do an amnesty, its better for both groups.

Remember how a few months ago gas prices were sky rocketing and suddenly gas prices started dropping at a fast and unusual rate? People were very happy about it, I was, gas prices were again getting to normal rates and something very important for the US Government was approaching as well; The November Elections.

The Bush Administration is so dirty that in order for Bush's popularity to start raising and to get as many votes for Republicans they had to do something like this. The US Government, mainly the Bush Administration is a double face issue.

They are always telling people what they want to hear but in reality, they are doing the opposite behind our backs.

When they were trying to first invade Iraq, their major excuse was that this country had Weapons of Mass Destruction and how this was an fatal threat for the world, especially for us; did Iraq have these weapons? Heck No! After many investigations by the United Nations Organization and other countries, the Bush's "Excuse" was a simply fallacy to play with our heads.

Please stop being so gullible and pay attention to what in reality is going on and not only what YOU want to hear, that's where this suckers are focusing.

Going back to the same note, a college education for Hispanics/Latinos is vital because of tomorrow's outlook on society, the majority will be Spanish-speaking and Hispanic/Latinos pushing us to prepare to better serve our nation.

Staying focus and doing the best you can in your classes is important because this will raise your gpa and show that you have commitment. Don't let your legal status put you down, make it be an inspiration and work harder because there are many scholarships and private universities that will help you guys.

Make sure you guys always fill out your FAFSA on time since this is one of the most important things you can do, like I mentioned before, your legal status doesn't matter here, still fill it out. After you fill the FAFSA out, start browsing for scholarships online, with your school counselor, newspaper and around your community; millions of them are out there.

Remember to always stay focused, working hard and involved in your community, in your academic niche and in extracurricular activities, these things will only make you a stronger candidate when it comes to applying for scholarships.

The United States to Build Their Own Berlin Wall..Damn Bush And His Team..

Yesterday, October 26, 2006 was another day that will probably be part of history because of what President Bush signed: The approval to start building the 700 mile long border wall between The United States and Mexico. Bush calls it part of a solution to better protect our nation from possible terrorists and to put a stop to illegal immigration; I call it simply racism and stupidity from his administration.

How can Mr. Bush and his team of dumb republicans believe a simple border wall is going to stop all these people from achieving their dream, better their lives and fighting hunger? I don't know what they were thinking while implementing this so called "plan", but I can assure you this is not going to work, and yes, it makes me very happy to say so.

We will probably see a percentage decline of people trying to come to the United States at first, but not because they are scared of the Bush Administration or because the wall was successful, but simply because they are working on other ways to surpass United States’ own Berlin Wall.

Many people are unhappy because of this approval and I urge all of you Latinos and Non-Latino Supporters to protest and let our voice be heard, especially in the coming elections. For those of you who can’t vote now, let your voice be heard in any other way possible.

I think these people should really take a look at the nation's economy and see the positive impact illegal and legal immigrants contribute to this country.

I would love to see some of these racist people go to the fields and work in the extreme weather conditions some of our people do it, I would like to see some of these dumb, ignorant people settle for a low paying job not because they are dumb, but because they have to work under terrible terms to be able to support a family.

I can honestly say I am upset and really mad at the current government, but at the same time it gives me power to fight this corrupt system of what is supposedly known as the "best" government. Look at Iraq, the Bush administration made promises to re-build and fix Iraq's problem and now everything is worse than it was, thousands of innocent people are dying daily, including our own soldiers who are losing their lives because of this damn Bush Administration.

Like I have mentioned, the border wall won’t work, the true answer for some of the underlying problems is an amnesty which it should happen as soon as possible. We are to stay here and to keep coming and no wall or laws will stop our Raza, so might as well lets work on a plan that will give us a win-win situation, because either you like it or not, we are here to stay and I am sure you can see that already! The November Elections are just around the corner and with it a war of political parties argumenting who the best of the best is.

Millions of people will be heading November the 7th to decide on tomorrow's future by electing our nation's best of the best, or so they say. Many proposition will be on the table and our duty is citizens and voters will be to decide if they are good enough to be approved or disapproved.

A lot of people that are able to vote simply don't care to register and go and make their vote count, others who wish they can go and vote and make a difference cant vote yet. The Latino Population is growing dramatically fast in the United States, but sadly the number of Latinos that go and actually vote is very small.

As the number of Latinos increases the role that we have to play in this country increases as well, meaning that today is the time to make the decisions that will affect us tomorrow since we, Latinos will be the majority in the near future to come. I urge all of you Latinos who are able to vote to go out there and cast your vote; a lot of times people believe a vote doesn't make a difference, but when it comes down to it, a vote can mean the difference between victory and failure.

The USA is in the process of building their own Berlin Wall in the Border, Arizona has become the most anti-illegal state in the nation and California, along with other states doesn't want to give illegal immigrant's a driver's license.

Its great to go out and protest about the things we don't like, but its best if we go out and cast our vote and actually make our decision count when it comes down to the voting game. Law Against Renting Housing To Illegal Immigrants..What Are They Thinking??

First, they reject a driver's license petition in California several times, Second, they approved and started building a 700 mile long wall in the border of Mexico-USA, and Third, a law has passed in Escondido, California not allowing home owners and housing companies to rent housing to illegal immigrants.

The city council of Escondido California just approved a law on October 19, 2006 against renting housing to illegal immigrants. Current illegal immigrants renting will have to be evicted within a month, the time frame for this wrongful law to take effect.

Escondido is the first city in California to have such a law and the seventh in the nation to refuse housing to illegal immigrants.

Lawmakers that propose laws such as this one don't have a heart when it comes to helping people or they are plain racist inconsiderate humans who only think about themselves and their race.

Illegal immigrants are not less than the "legal" people here, how can a simple paper add more respect to others? they are humans like all of us who want to better their lives and all they need is an opportunity, an opportunity that is being closed from all aspects, but you know what? They will show the rest of the non-supporters that they came here for a mission and that they will accomplish it no matter what.

For those of you, who like me support the cause, lets help these people and prevent them from further suffering. I can only imagine the negative effect this law will have in the economy of the city of Escondido since no one will want to do the "other" jobs; hopefully this will be a lesson for the city council on how valuable illegal immigrants are to this nation.

Latinos Responsible For The 300,000,000 Population Mark In The United States

For the past weeks we have heard on the news and from people about the population growth here in the United States. Everyone had been waiting long for the country to reach the 300,000,000 mark and how it would occur.

Today, at 7:46am two newborns were born in the East Coast and are fighting for the 300,000,000 spot that will make them part of this country's history. Interesting enough, the two newborns fighting for this spot are Hispanics, one is Mexican and the other Puerto Rican, descendents from immigrant parents.

The United States is an amazing country with many opportunities to succeed, sadly, there is the people who love to spread racism and hate to other cultures and ethnic groups. I am talking about the people that discriminate against immigrants, let it be legal or illegal, they simply hate the fact, that we Hispanics are the fastest growing culture in the United States and that we are shaping the country into a more diversified country.

It really pisses me off when I hear people talking about "Mexicans" or "latinos" in general going back to their country. These people who are relative ignorant love to say that we are stealing their tax money and their jobs. Its amazing to hear these people talk so much crap about our people, but when it comes to reality, I assure you they wont be going to work in the fields or those "low paying" jobs some of us have to do.

They are going to build a wall in the border and the government thinks that is going to stop people from coming, honestly, that makes me laugh because nothing will stop people from reaching their dream to better their lives.

Where I want to get at is basically that today the 300,000,000 person in those country was born, that person is one of the many that will shape tomorrow's future and guess what? He is a Latino newborn, so for all of that negative people, stop the racism, the hate and just be part of this great nation, lets all be happy and be a great family.

For long, Illegal Immigrants, especially mexicans, central americans and southern americans have asked for an immigration reform. These people have asked for it in many ways, by protesting, by striking, by begging and what do they get in return? A Wall in the border, wow, how nice...

I agree that the United States is a huge target for terrorism and that they want to protect all of its citizens after all of what has happened to this country, but why build a wall in the border with mexico? What about the border with canada and the ports in the West and east coast?

I don't see how the United States Congress and Senate members believe that a wall is going to stop these people from coming here. These people come here to look for the American Dream, to find a job, to better their lives and to have something to give to their loved ones.

It amazes me that the United States was so involved when they brought down the Berlin Wall to create peace, but now they want to build a similar wall to divide a job from millions of people in need? The Berlin Wall was in the middle of the country, yet it was used as a divider, same thing they want to do with the border wall. I just don't understand the way the system works sometimes.

Instead of wasting millions of dollars in this border wall that wont help at all or in the conflict in Iraq, the United States should focus on the problems in this country. They should create more jobs, they should provide health insurance like many other nations have and simply better this nation.

The United States is an amazing country, a country of opportunity, a country made from people all over the world, so why do they want to stop what made this country? Everyone deserves a chance to succeed, why be so selfish and promote hate against illegal immigrants; after all, they are just humans like all of us.
